Office templates and report migration

A new workflow.
A familiar starting point.

Keep the Office layouts your team already knows. Add data tags, inspect the bindings and generate native files through the same document platform.

AACME / CUSTOMER SUCCESS

Dear {{customer.name}},

Thank you for choosing Acme. Your account summary for {{period}} is ready.

Account total{{currency total "USD"}}

Best regards,
The Acme team

Your authored layout. Values from your data.
Bind fields. Lint tags. Generate a native file.

Three native source formats

Authored in Office.
Filled by Pulp Engine.

This is a separate authoring path from the visual editor. Native output needs no Microsoft Office installation.

.docx

Word

Letters, agreements and reports with authored styles, headers, footers and repeated content.

.xlsx

Excel

Typed cell values, row bands and retained number formats, with supported formula references adjusted as rows expand.

.pptx

PowerPoint

Fill slide text, table rows and pictures while retaining the authored presentation. Slide repetition is not supported.

From source to document

Keep the process reviewable.

  1. 01 / Prepare

    Add your data tags.

Use field paths, shared formatting helpers, loops and conditions inside a supported Office source.

  2. 02 / Inspect

    Find issues at the source.

Inspect tags and schema bindings. Lint findings point to the part, paragraph, cell or shape that needs attention.

  3. 03 / Generate

    Fill, version and deliver.

Manage private source versions, generate the native format, and optionally convert to PDF through Gotenberg.

Moving from an existing report engine?

A first draft.
With a fidelity report.

Import deterministically, inspect approximations and unsupported features, then decide what to save. Migration is a starting point for review.

RDL / RDLC

Import report definitions into editable templates and review layout and expression translations.

JRXML

Translate supported report structures and expressions. Imported scripts are not executed.

HTML templates

Start from supported Handlebars, Liquid or Jinja HTML and inspect the resulting draft.

Crystal XML

Preview support for RptToXml exports. Binary .rpt files require export first; customer-file validation is pending.

What to check first

Evaluate with representative files.

Supported packages

Save as Transitional OOXML. Macros, encryption and Strict OOXML are rejected. Use representative files to verify the layout and formulas your team relies on.

Office PDF conversion

PDF conversion requires the optional Gotenberg service. Complex spreadsheets and presentations can render differently across Office and LibreOffice.

Import fidelity

Unsupported logic is reported rather than executed. Customer Crystal export validation and some native viewer checks remain pending in the release reports.
